Getting started
I just signed up. What happens first?
Primer walks you through a short setup: name your household, add your children, then pick your subjects and say how often each one happens — daily, Monday/Wednesday/Friday, or weekly. From that, Primer builds your first week for you, so you land on a real plan instead of an empty grid. You can also choose to start with a blank week and add everything yourself.
Do I need to be technical to use Primer?
Not at all. If you can drag a card and type a note, you can run your whole week in Primer. It's designed to get out of your way — that's the whole point.
What are the three cards on my first week?
They're there to teach the three things you'll do most: check an assignment off, drag one to another day, and click its text to edit it and add a note. A short checklist above your planner ticks itself as you try each one, then retires for good. Delete the cards whenever you like.
What if I'm already using a spreadsheet or paper planner?
Most families come from exactly that. Primer keeps the parts that work — a week at a glance, a record of what you did — and drops the copying, re-copying, and "where did I put that."
Planning your week
How do I move work that didn't get done?
Drag the card to another day, or open it and change the date. To move a whole week's unfinished work forward at once, use the roll-over action in the week toolbar. You can also select several cards and drag them together.
Can I reuse a week I've already set up?
Yes — save a week as a template, then generate a future week from it. Note that a template captures the shape of the week (which subject, which child, which day) along with the text you had on each card, so you'll usually want to update lesson and page numbers after generating.
What is Ask Primer?
It's the assistant built into the apps. Describe a change in your own words — "move this week's math to next week," "make Friday a free day," "mark today's reading complete" — by typing or speaking. Primer shows you exactly what it plans to change and nothing happens until you tap Apply. You need edit access to use it.
I changed something by mistake. Can I undo it?
Yes. Open History to see recent changes — including anything Ask Primer did and any week Primer generated — and restore any step.
Your household and co-parent
Can my spouse or co-parent use it too?
Yes — that's built in. One subscription covers your whole household. Invite them by email and you'll both see and edit the same plan in real time.
What can each person do?
An owner can do everything, including billing and removing people. An editor can change the plan. A viewer can see it but not change it — useful for a grandparent or an evaluator. You can change someone's role, or remove them, at any time.
I was invited but I can't find the household.
Open the invitation link from your email on the device you want to use, and sign in with the address it was sent to. If the link has expired, ask whoever invited you to send a new one. Still stuck? Email support@primerhomeschool.app.
Devices and syncing
Which devices does Primer run on?
Mac, iPhone, iPad, and any web browser. The Mac and iOS apps are genuinely native — not a website in a wrapper — so they're fast, they feel at home on the platform, and they keep working offline. Everything syncs the moment you're back online.
Do I have to buy it separately for each device?
No. One App Store download covers your Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and a single subscription covers everyone in your household on every platform. Sign in anywhere and your plan is already there.
A change I made on one device hasn't shown up on another.
Changes normally appear within a second or two. If one device has been offline, open the app and give it a moment to catch up. If something still looks wrong after both devices have been online together, check History to confirm the change was recorded, then get in touch and tell us what you changed and where.
Records and reporting
Does Primer help with my state's requirements?
It helps you keep the records most states ask for — what you taught, when, and a running journal — and it can generate documents like a notice of intent, an attendance log, and a course of study. Pick your state to see a plain-English overview of what's expected.
Is this legal advice?
No. Primer's state guides are general information to help you get oriented. Requirements change and can vary by local district — always confirm the current rules with your school district or your state's Department of Education before you file.
Can I print or export my plan?
Yes — print a week or a day in a few layouts, with or without notes and instructions.
Trial, billing, and your data
What happens after the free trial?
You get 14 days free, no card required. After that it's $9/month (or $90/year) for your whole family. Cancel anytime — your data stays yours.
How do I cancel?
If you subscribed on the web, manage it from your account settings. If you subscribed through the App Store on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad, cancel in your Apple subscription settings — Apple handles that billing, so it can't be cancelled from inside Primer.
Is my family's information private?
Your data is yours. It lives in your private household, visible only to the people you invite. We don't sell it, and we don't use it for advertising.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from account settings. Deletion is final after a short grace period, and it removes your data — so export or print anything you want to keep first.
Still stuck?
Email support@primerhomeschool.app. If something looks wrong with your plan, check
History first — it lists recent changes and lets you restore any step, which often fixes it faster than we can reply.
